Meet Steph DeLacy!

Steph is proud to be our Theatre Programs Coordinator at DJT! We asked her a series of questions ranging from silly to serious in order to get to know her a little better. The informal interview follows:

When did you first discover your passion for theatre? Was there one specific moment you can recall?

My dad took me to a high school production of The Sound of Music when I was probably 7 or 8. I don't remember anything about it, other than I wanted to do theatre after that!

Favorite role?

I played the role of Sara in "Stop Kiss," opposite current theatre instructor Jessica Sheridan. It was not only my favorite role, but one of the best ensemble acting experiences I've ever had.

What about a dream role?

Too many to just choose one...Brooke in "Noises Off," Ivy in "August: Osage County," Angelica in "Hamilton," Dawn in “Waitress,” or Vanessa in “In the Heights”

How do you spend your free time?

I love spending time with my friends, cooking, and trying new things!

What song always puts you in a good mood?

Africa by Toto

Favorite productions?

Favorites I've worked on have been Les Miserables, West Side Story, In the Heights, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Pirates of Penzance

What's the best thing you've seen on stage recently?

I saw Hamilton for the third time recently. It was the touring cast and I was blown away by how extraordinarily talented everyone was!

Favorite choreographer?

I love Bob Fosse and studying his work. It's not uncommon to find some of his signature moves or concepts in my own choreography.

What quote do you live by?

I don't have any specific one, but I do love a good quote!

Who are your heroes?

My dad, for sure. He is an amazing educator, and it was so cool growing up and seeing him interact with his students and basketball players. I hope I can make even half of the impact that he has.

What is one thing you wish you had known when you were younger?

Not to be afraid to go after what I want. It took me 29 years to figure that one out!

What is your favorite thing about Junior Theatre?

Junior Theatre is exactly what I needed when I was young- a creative outlet to help me grow artistically and in my self-confidence. I love that I can help give children that gift!

What do you love most about teaching children's theatre?

I love that kids can unapologetically express themselves!

What is on your bucket list?

Going to Italy, getting a dog, concurring my fear of heights, and performing on stage one more time!

How do you find inspiration?

I get inspired by the people around me. It's really easy to get caught up in the hard things going on in the world, so it's nice to look at my family and friends, even my students, and see that we're all working toward common goals. That inspires me to be my best, and to create my best work.

What was the best piece of advice you've ever received?

That I can create my own path in life

What was your favorite class in school?

I loved Language Arts and math classes!

What's your favorite food?

I've never met a pizza I didn't like.

If you had one superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation- my friends and family live all over the place so it would be nice to visit them whenever I wanted.

To be or not to be?

Always the positive- to be!
