Sudent Led Show


We will produce a 4th show this season that will be completely student led. Students will run all aspects of the production including production team roles, actors, ShowTime Pal, marketing, and front of house. The budget is $100, so all props/costumes/set will be pulled from pre-existing stock.


Timeline:

10/6 - Applications for production team due

10/16 - Director Meets with Artistic Director/Producer

10/21 - Auditions and first Production Team meeting

11/10 - Rehearsals begin

12/14 - Load in

12/19 - Performance at 7pm

12/20 - Performances at 1pm and 4pm, followed by Strike

Below are a list of production team roles you can apply for. We may combine and/or not use all production team roles based on interest and needs of the show. It is possible to be in some production team roles and also act in the show.

Main Designers are expected to attend all production meetings, respond to communication within 48 hours, and meet all deadlines set out in the first production meeting. Individual role descriptions will provide further expectations. While we prefer for applicants to have experience, we can provide supplementary training.

Director: will be responsible for casting the production with the Artistic Director, assisting in establishing and overseeing all scheduling, and lead all rehearsals for the production. They will be present for all production meetings and setup independent meetings with production team members as needed.  They will be responsible for a design presentation at the first production meeting, providing an overall direction for the members of the design team. They will be responsible for the overall artistic direction of the production and respond to any questions within 24-48 hours. They are responsible for the overall success of the show and seeing it is ready to open as scheduled. 

Stage Manager: will be responsible for assisting Director in organizing rehearsals, and being at all production run performances. They will be present for all rehearsals and contact students with messages and information as needed. They will attend all production meetings and be the key hub for communication for the entire production team and use tools to keep cast, crew, and others on the same schedule. They will call the show.

Set Designer: will work with the Director to design a set within the overall artistic vision. They will provide scenic design plans and drawings on a timeline linked with production meeting schedule. They will be available to answer questions and make routine visits to the theatre to oversee that the design is completed on time. They may need to assist in the construction of some scenic elements. They will work with the Master Carpenter and manage the Scenic Painter to assure the set is completed on schedule. In addition to production meetings, ideally Set Designer will attend one or two tech rehearsals.

Master Carpenter: will be responsible for overseeing the construction of the scenic elements for production. They will be responsible for overseeing any assistants and/or volunteers during construction times. They will use supplies provided by Junior Theatre stock. They will maintain set throughout run of production, with a key focus on safety. Coordinates painting with Set Designer, Scenic Painter, and any Tech Assistants. In addition to production meetings, ideally Master Carpenter will attend one or two tech rehearsals and is required to attend and/or lead Load in and Strike.

Props Designer: will be responsible for overseeing the construction and securing of all props for the production within the Director’s vision. They will use supplies provided by Junior Theatre stock. They will maintain props throughout the run of production. They are responsible for coordinating setup of props areas backstage to track all items with Stage Manager. In addition to production meetings, Props Designer will attend Strike.

Costume Designer: will be responsible for the design of all costumes. They will work with current Junior Theatre Costume Stock to costume the production. They will manage Costume Assistant to build and prepare show. They will coordinate with Wardrobe and develop plans for costume care as needed. In addition to production meetings, Costumer will attend Costume Parade, dress rehearsals, and Strike.

Sound Designer: will be responsible for designing all needed sound for the production, including pre-show & post-show tracks in consultation with Director. One Sound Cue Prompt script will need to be supplied to the Stage Management Team. In addition to production meetings, Sound Designer will attend Dry Tech, and some tech rehearsals as needed. Sound Designer will ensure all equipment gets put back at the end of a production.

Lighting Designer: will be responsible for the design of the lights. They will oversee the light hang and focus, write light cues, and manage any lighting assistants. They will provide a Light Cue Script for Stage Management. In addition to production meetings, Lighting Designer will attend Dry Tech and some tech rehearsals as needed.

Assistant Director: will be responsible for assisting the director as needed. This may include helping to cast the production, assist in establishing and overseeing scheduling, lead or assist with rehearsals. They will be present for all production meetings and attend independent meetings with production team members as needed.

Marketing Director: will design the show poster, create content for social media posts, and write the press release.

Assistant Roles: These members are not required to attend all production meetings, and typically have a smaller commitment, assisting designers as needed.

Set Build Assistant: Contractor will be responsible for helping to build the set. They will attend and assist in Load in and Strike.

Scenic Painter: will be responsible for completing the scenic painting within the vision of the Director and Set Designer. They will touch up any paint that needs done throughout run.

Costume Build Assistant: will be responsible for assisting the Costume Designer with building and/or altering any costume pieces as requested. 

Wardrobe Master: will be responsible for maintaining costumes throughout the run of production, including working all performances. They will work in conjunction with Costume Designer to see costumes for show are a success. Wardrobe Master may be responsible for the laundering some or all items. They will execute dressing room setup, planning, use and procedures for actors and crew. They may work with a wardrobe team to prepare all actors. 

Hair and Make-up: will work with Director and Costume Designer to design hair and make-up looks for cast. They will work with Wardrobe and any student crew to execute the vision. They will attend dress rehearsals as well as prep time for all performances.

Lighting Assistant: will be responsible for assisting the Lighting Designer. Duties may include assisting with hang, focus, and programming. Typically only needed for a few days.

Auditions will be held October 21st from 5:30-7pm in the theatre. Those auditioning will perform a short monologue, not to exceed one minute. If you are unable to make auditions, you can submit a video of your audition to ashley@davenportjuniortheatre.org.
