Bobby Becher, Instructor

Bobby grew up attending performing arts magnet schools in Huntsville, Alabama, and has been on stage since the age of five. He graduated from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) in 2011 with a B.A. in Theatre and minors in Music and Dance and has been acting professionally ever since.

Shortly after college, Bobby moved to Paju, South Korea to join the Edutainers at English Musicals Korea. In his two and a half years abroad, Bobby worked as a director, music director, choreographer, and accompanist, but his primary contributions came as a composer and playwright. During his time Edutaining, Bobby wrote three original Main Stage scripts. He also composed over 40 original songs, including the complete scores and orchestrations for 4 Main Stage productions. Bobby also composed incidental and fight music for a number of shows, and provided additional orchestrations for three other Main Stage productions.

Since returning to the States, Bobby and his wife (fellow DJT instructor, Ashley Becher) have been working consistently as actors, and have successfully established their own Theatre for Young Audiences company, WhatFun! Theatre. Bobby and Ashley have performed from New York City to Southwest Florida, and most recently back here in the Midwest, in Sullivan, Illinois. WhatFun! Theatre’s shows have been produced throughout the country, including at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2015.

Bobby is honored to be working with the amazing team and talent here at DJT, both as an instructor, and with the mainstage company. He looks forward to growing with everyone onstage and off!
