INTERNSHIPS
For the past two summers, we have been able to offer internships to outstanding college students. These internships are an excellent way for students to gain practical, real-world experience in the performing arts. This summer, we will offer internships in two separate fields.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR INTERNSHIP
Purpose
The Program Director Internship provides the opportunity to help develop and maintain a summer season at a Performing Arts Complex. The intern will foster creative ways to generate new participants, while helping in the day to day operations of the Performing Arts Complex. The intern can expect to be involved in marketing, coordination, public relations, youth leadership and other roles at Davenport Junior Theatre. The goal of the internship is to build experience and professional contacts, providing a bridge to future employment.
Prerequisites
The intern should have a passion for the performing arts and appreciate the benefit of arts education for children. The intern should have enthusiasm and a willingness to take initiative in organizing and preparing projects. General computer knowledge and developed writing skills will be required and put to use. Since we engage youth and adults, the intern should also have strong communication skills to deal with general public.
What to Expect
The intern will work side-by-side with our Performing Arts Supervisor (Daniel DP Sheridan), Theatre Coordinator (Tyson Danner) and Studio Coordinator (Lauren Sciascia). The intern will help facilitate the use of the Performing Arts Complex. The intern will develop knowledge of our classes and reinforce classroom ideas and goals. An opportunity to observe, learn, and participate in a variety of areas will be provided. The intern can expect to be challenged with new situations and technologies.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR INTERNSHIP
Purpose
The Technical Director Internship provides the opportunity to help develop and maintain a summer season at a Performing Arts Complex. The intern will work in all technical areas to enhance programming. The intern can expect to be involved in all design areas, coordinating technical spaces, developing use of new technologies, youth leadership and other roles at the Davenport Junior Theatre. The goal of the internship is to build experience and professional contacts, providing a bridge to future employment.
Prerequisites
The intern should have a passion for the performing arts and appreciate the benefit of arts education for children. The intern should have enthusiasm and a willingness to take initiative in organizing and preparing projects. The intern should have some theatrical construction and design experience. It is preferred that the intern have some experience with Vectorworks. Since we engage youth and adults, the intern should also have strong communication skills to deal with general public.

The intern will work side-by-side with our Performing Arts Supervisor (Daniel DP Sheridan), Theatre Coordinator (Tyson Danner) and Studio Coordinator (Lauren Sciascia). The intern will help facilitate the use of the Performing Arts Complex. The intern will be working in Vectorworks for a variety of projects in the Nighswander Theatre. Intern will help in management of technical areas and equipment. An opportunity to observe, learn, and participate in a variety of areas will be provided. The intern can expect to be challenged with new situations and technologies.

GENERAL DETAILS FOR BOTH POSITIONS
Time Commitment
Some weeks will require more hours due to facility use and general activity. Interns can expect to work approximately 20 hours per week. The timing of when hours are scheduled is negotiable. Additional enthusiasm on time is welcome. Internship will run from June 11 – August 17, 2012.
Compensation
Intern will be paid $1,000.00. Pay will come in two lump sums: one during week six, and another the week following the conclusion of the internship. The intern will be paid as an independent contractor for Davenport Parks and Recreation. Additional compensation opportunities and positions may arise throughout summer as a camp assistant and/or instructor.
Housing
If housing is needed, it may be possible to arrange housing through Davenport Parks and Recreation. Please indicate if housing is needed on your application.
Deadline
All application materials due by March 21, 2012. Intern will be contacted about interviews by March 28, 2012. Interns will be selected by April 6, 2012. All applicants will be notified if application is selected or declined.

Swing & Ballroom Workshop : July 16 - 26 : 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Performing Arts Camp : July 30 - Aug 3 : 8:30am - 4:00pm
African Beats Workshop : August 6 - 10 : 10:00am - Noon
Summer Session Class Showcases : August 14, 15, 16 : 4:00pm – 6:30pm
Family Movie Nights : Third Friday of each month : 5:30pm - 9:30pm
* Hours listed above do not designate when the intern must be present, simply when the events will occur. Intern hours will be worked in and around event times to create the fullest and most dynamic experience for the intern.
* Some additional Parks and Recreation events may involve the Performing Arts.
* Additional Theatre Rentals will be occurring during the 10-weeks and may be opportunity for intern to be involved in professional theatrical rentals.
